Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Liner

Product review time again.

Who doesn’t love a good eyeliner? There are loads of options ; kohl, shadow, gel, pencil and liquid and there are even more color options.

Personally, if I am going to do eye liner, I usually gravitate towards a winged black line on my upper lid only. I like a dark inky matte black that will wear all day without smudging. One of my biggest pet peeves is that I can not start the line too close to my inner eye otherwise it ends up smudging into my tear duct as the day progresses.

I have been achieving my eyeliner look with  the Milani liquif’eye pencil. I usually smudge the pencil into my lash line, and then make it more precise and wing it out with an angled brush and a black Inglot shadow. Rather complicated, no? This is why I am forever on the hunt for a liquid liner that will give me the same control, precision and intensity in one step and does not cause racoon tear ducts.

I purchased the Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Liner in Ebony Exact at Shoppers Drug Mart for $8.99.  I really  liked what it had to say on the packaging about precision. My main concern was the felt tip on the product. I find that sometimes these liners skip when drawing with them, not producing a smooth black line. They also tend to dry out quickly.

Master Precise Liner

The tip itself was a perfect size, it allowed me the ability to draw a line with control and precision. The line itself was a nice dark jet black and it dried to a nice finish. I do not usually care for liners that dry shiny like patent leather.

Precision Tip

I am pleased to report that the liner stayed put all day and did not move from where I had applied it.

 Closed Eye Liner

Winged Liner

However, there is not a happy ending to this story.

I don’t wear eyeliner everyday. In fact most days , I skip it. I reached for this product again about a week after initially trying it and I was disappointed to see that it had dried out quite a bit. This is odd because I stored it with the cap tightly closed. You can see that it is now barely pigmented at all. This is very disappointing as I thought I had found a great liner.

Eyeliner - Not dark anymore

I would not recommend the Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Liner for purchase.

On to the next one…

  1. Hmm, good to know! I’m not sure if you’ve tried it, but the Shopper’s Drug Mart brand ‘Essence’ has a liquid liner with the same felt-tip pen style and I’ve found it works quite well for me– it’s super cheap ($3.99) and I haven’t had a problem with it drying out, but I use it almost every day.

    1. I just discovered Essence a few months ago. I am loving that the really inexpensive drug store brand like this, Wet N Wild and NYX have been stepping up their game lately. I bought an Essence eye pencil for an on the road touch up and it ended up really smudgy on my face. I’ll have to try the felt tip one though. Thanks for the recommendation Suze!

  2. I was so excited…and then, like you, disappointed. I’m not really great at applying make-up so I thought that this product would be an easy way to achieve a more complicated look. Thanks to TNL I won’t need to waste money trying this product myself.

    1. Oops, sorry. I was dissapointed too 😦 It seems many of these felt tip style liners dry out quickly or skip when applied. I have heard good things about the Physician’s Formula one. When I try it I will be sure to share my results. Thanks Kath!

  3. Hi ladies, I swear by Kat Von D Tattoo Liner and Stila Waterproof Eyeliner. Both are liquid liners. They are pricey, around $20 each, but they last really long. I have yet to find a cheaper, equally-as-reliable alternative, but I’m always on the hunt. Thanks for the review! If I may say Ash, your method might be complicated, but the results are gorgeous. I’ve always admired your eyeliner – it’s just the right angle where you wing it out, exactly the right thickness of line and it is inky-black perfection. I hear you though – sometimes you just want to paint the line on and go!

    1. I must pick one of those up next time I go to Sephora. The price tag is not so bad when you consider all the money wasted on bad products. I dont mind shelling out moola if its something that I know works well. Thanks so much Seph!

  4. Thanks for the review…I haven’t tried liquid liner since me with something inky lining my eye probably isn’t the best idea! LOL…but I will get to it one day…and not buy this!

  5. Oh wow! I was just about to purchase this product because I was impressed with the tip, but after seeing how it changed from a very dark black to a light maroonish colour…no thank you!
