Toronto Natural Hair & Beauty Show… and Haul!

With the continuous buzz on YouTube, Twitter and Instagram about the different hair shows all over the US, I have been longing to attend one and always seemed to miss them when they’re here. They always look like SO much fun! It was all thanks to my subscription to Toni Daley’s YouTube channel that I found out it was coming back for a weekend in Toronto and invited a few friends to join me. With the reasonable price of $15 we couldn’t go wrong.

The show was held at the Japanese Cultural Centre in the Don Mills/Eglinton area. It had a host of workshops, consultations and on the Sunday it was complete with a series of vendors. We went on the Sunday and as you entered the venue and handed in your ticket to receive your wristband, you were given a program and a gift bag containing samples from a couple of the sponsors (DAX and Trend Trunk).

The vendors had booths set up in different areas of the centre and each station was bustling with customers.

I had the pleasure of introducing myself to Toni Daley, and of course indulging in purchasing a couple of her items. She was selling studs for $5, and bigger earrings ranged in price from $10-$15. She also had some of her artwork on display and they were amazing. If you’ve been sleeping on Toni Daley, check out her website: While I was perusing, I noticed she was also one of the sponsors.

Isn’t her hair fantastic?!

Beside Toni was Loc Soc, another natural hair accessory that would replace the old school stocking and look MUCH nice. We laboured over which pattern we should purchase before finally moving on. The selection was wide and we are very, very, indecisive.

There were also some fashion shows held, which included fashion for plus size women which I really appreciated. I only took a snippet of pictures (from only one designer – Sheferene), as each designer presented quite a few samples of their work.

We really enjoyed the drum show/lesson presented by Ijo Vudu Dance International. It was an interactive performance where audience members were (sometimes forcibly haha!) on stage to join in the dance moves just demonstrated.

Our favourite vendors – who had the products we were most excited about – really took the time to explain their benefits were Adama Naturals (Shea Nilotica – softer/lighter than Shea Butter) and the representatives from Design Essentials (they were selling their products 3 full size for $24.99).

And on that note, onto my hair haul indulgence….

Overall, it was a great afternoon and more than I had expected. I was introduced to some great products, but the best part was all the talent that was on display from fashion to art and accessories. And I can’t forget all the great hairstyles with natural hair in all its splendor! I really look forward to returning to this event next year. I wish I could have visited every booth to show support but not until I win the lottery!

If you’ve attended this event, let me know what you thought – leave your comments below!
