**New Feature** Get it or Forget it!

Hello dear TNLers,

As we bid the harsh Winter goodbye and welcome some beautiful weather, we thought it would also be a great time to welcome a new feature on The Neon Leopard. You know how much we love to try new things of all kinds; food, makeup, travel, skincare, haircare and everything in between! We often try more things than we can get a chance to blog about, and every month we discover our share of must-haves and duds.

So with that, GET IT OR FORGET IT is going to be our monthly round up of what we tried the month prior. We will each share our thoughts on 3 products for the month and if we suggest that you…. Get it or Forget it!

So without further ado…here is what we tried out in May:

Chris:

L’Oreal Mythic Oil

Get it or Forget it (Mythic oil)

I’m a hair oil fanatic. Plain and simple. But if you put it in a nice bottle with a cool name and then throw on a discounted price – you have me hook, line and sinker. At the recent L’Oreal sale, my bestie suggested I tried this oil because she really likes it. I was a little wary considering we have completely different hair types and needs, but…. you know – it was in a nice bottle with a very cool name and it was on sale.

Sure, why not. Plus when I read the ingredients I liked what I saw (contains avocado and grapeseed oils among others). It smells lovely but not too heavy on the fragrance, more like a soft, pleasant smell…. kinda like fabric softener but more.. oily. I’m sure you catch my drift.

What I really like about it is how light it feels from the moment I pump some into my hand. When I use it on my hair (be it as part of the LOC method or to add slip when I take out twists) my hair has never felt weighed down. I can use it a few times a week without no real concern about buildup or residue. Although it’s an oil it isn’t greasy at all.

I’d say GET IT!

L’Oreal Infallible Lipstick

Get it or Forget it (L'Oreal infallible)

This was another product that the bestie had suggested. Actually, she really ranted and raved about this one! I hadn’t used it before because I’m not really a fan of L’Oreal lipsticks. But… it wasn’t just lipstick – my ultimate weakness – it was lipstick on sale. So I once again decided to give it a shot.

You’re supposed to apply a thin layer of the colour and let it dry for 2 mins before applying the balm. I even  exfoliated my lips to get the full experience.

I’ll cut to the chase – it’s horrid. I first of all didn’t like the colour, then when it dried I didn’t like how my lips felt. But Chris, you haven’t added the balm yet, I told myself. So I did and I still didn’t like the feel or look of the results. It flaked and left my lips dry, then all I wanted to do was wipe it all off, but because the formula is supposed to be lasting it got messy. I used the thing once, and I’m usually a “benefit of the doubt” kinda gal. No thanks.

Basically = FORGET IT.

St Ives Triple Butters Body Wash

Get it or Forget it (st ive's triple butters)

Okay, how many times have I said that I’m a Diva on a Dime? Perusing the pharmacy aisle at my grocery store, I thought I’d check out the shower gels that were on sale. This one caught my eye because of the purple label (lol) and it said it had coconut oil in it. And there was one more thing – the price was incredible for that size ($4.49 for 709ml).

The tagline is “deeply hydrates for silky smooth skin” but I’ll be honest – I wasn’t really expecting much.

Excuse me while I eat those words! IT has a nice creamy texture that lathers so easily. A little goes a long way, but I tend to be a bit excessive with the soap, admittedly. It goes on nice and silky and leaves my skin feeling so soft afterwards. It smells like coconut oil – so if you like coconut you’d love this. I liked it so much that I’ve been stocking up every time I go to the store and see that it is still on sale.

I have found a new favourite shower gel, this is a huge GET IT!

Shea Moisture Organic Yucca & Baobab Anti Breakage Masque with Biotin and Bamboo Extract

Just a bit of background here, I had been colouring my hair very dark for a few years. Black is super hard to lift, so even with natural lightening agents like Vitamin C, I could only do so much. It was also resulting in my hair lightening in some areas and not the others. I finally decided to just bite the bullet and lighten my hair chemically. I am happy with the results but it has obviously left my hair a bit drier than it was before. I am trying a number of products to restore moisture and prevent breakage. Simply put, I want my hair to feel more like silk and less like hay. Capish?

I have tried a number or products in the Shea Moisture line before. My favourite is the Organic Yucca and Baobab Thickening Moisture Milk. Used sparingly, it really works well on my thin fine hair to add volume and really pump it up. So, when I was on the hunt for a good hair masque I thought something with similar ingredients would be a great fit.

Shea Moisture Anti Breakage Masque

I purchased a 12 oz jar of the Anti Breakage Masque for $10.00 at my local beauty supply store. The product was not as rich feeling as I thought it would be. I was surprised to find that the masque has a mousse consistency which is very different from other conditioners. It smells really fresh and clean.

Shea Moisture Anti Breakage Masque

Shea Moisture claims that, ” This all-natural treatment masque penetrates deeply to moisturize and fortify while increasing the density and thickness of fine, thin hair. Our special blend of nourishing Yucca, Biotin and vitamin-rich Baobab Oil strengthens hair strands and helps prevent breakage for fuller and healthier hair.”

I would use this hair masque a few times a week, sometimes daily. That being said, I went through it pretty quickly. Surprisingly, I found that it did little to moisturize my hair and I did not notice any difference in breakage while using it. My hair felt soft and smelled heavenly after using it but I expected more.

As I mentioned, I really like a lot of Shea Moisture products , so it could just be that this one wasn’t a good fit for me.I hear that Shea Moisture now makes dye and MAKEUP , so you better believe I’m not ready to close my door on this brand any time soon. But as for the Organic Yucca & Baobab Anti Breakage Masque with Biotin and Bamboo Extract, I’m going to FORGET IT.

Trader Joe’s Cookie  Butter – Crunchy

Trader Joe's Cookie Butter Crunchy

I discovered cookie butter pretty late in the game. I wrote all about it here, because cookie butter is worthy of that. Cookie butter is everything. Or, so I thought. Now that I have tried it I realize that CRUNCHY COOKIE BUTTER IS EVERYTHING.

The crunchy cookie butter has been sold out each time I have been able to visit a Trader Joe’s, so I have only ever tried the regular ( nom!) and chocolate swirl ( not so nom, because the chocolate takes over ). Now that I have tried the crunchy its like falling in love all over again. So, I feel the need to share with you.

I have also come to the conclusion that Trader Joe’s cookie butter is infinitely tastier than the Cookienotti version we carry in Canada. Although, it is a good thing we don’t have Trader Joe’s here or I would likely be 768 lbs.

To be clear – GET IT!!!!!!!!

Kardashian Beauty Au Natural Perfect Nude Lip Set in the Flesh

I hate to admit that I kind of dig the Kardashians, I really do. I realize they are rather vapid, and representative of all things commercial and shallow but I just need some mindless reality television once in a while, ok? Don’t judge me.

I will say, that if there is one thing that these girls should actually be in the business of, its makeup. That family has some of the most amazing makeup that always looks flawless. So, I’m thinking they know their stuff. I was looking forward to getting my hands on some Kardashian Beauty products on a recent visit to Ulta, but the display unit was literally empty. Like, actually. I guess it’s that Kardashian Kash Kow at work once again. Love ’em or hate ’em… that name brings in the big bucks.

In another area of Ulta, I found a misshelved Perfect Nude Lip Set. The librarian in me wanted to reshelve it. But instead, I purchased it. Apparently these are the lip products that Kim wore at her wedding to some Kanye guy. You may have heard about it.

This set contains a double ended lip liner/lipstick and a lip gloss. First of all, aside from the gloss the products are miniscule. At $14.95 , I guess you could just look at it as a full sized gloss with bonus products but I highly doubt the liner and lipstick will last long enough to be used for the whole life of the gloss.

As soon as I opened the lip liner, it broke off. Ok… moving on. The lipstick is ok but a little on the darker side for a nude. All of the shades are quite brown.

On my lips, the colour is ok, but truly not something I see myself reaching for as I have numerous nude shades I like better on myself.

The real deal breaker though, is that I find that the products have a gross chemical taste when they’re sitting on my lips. Blech.

Kim , Kourtney and Khloe, I will not be repurchasing. Krappy Kontainers and tastes like Khemicals = FORGET IT.
