July’s Get it or Forget it

We’re still reeling from how quickly these months go by! Dear Summer – please slow down. Love Chris & Ash. But we’d also like to say that we love the positive feedback that this new feature has been getting.

Speaking of summer, make sure and take a peek at our instagram page to see what we have been up to, and make sure you are following us @theneonleopardblog – where we are posting our 100 Happy Days Challenge pics!

CHRIS

I’m going to spend some time with one of my favourite drugstore brands – Maybelline. This wasn’t the plan, but I just… seem to buy a lot of their stuff and when I was deciding what I’d feature this month, noticed a teeny tiny pattern. We like patterns, so let’s just roll with it.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

  GIFI Maybelline baby skin(1)

As a life-long member of Team Oily Skin and its sub-team Team Ginormous Pores, I am always in search of something that would not only prime my skin for a flawless finish when I do make-up, but mainly any way to diminish the appearance of the crater pores. Ya feel me?

Maybelline seems to be on a whole “baby” kick, and we’re here to eat it all up. So when I saw this product at Wal-Mart and read what it claimed to do, well duh I had to try it! About the product: “Insta-blur technology visibly smoothes pores away. Can be worn alone or under makeup. Non-comedogenic and fragrance-free.”

– HANG ON – *googles non-comedogenic*… ohhh okay so basically it doesn’t cause break outs *side-eye*.

It is supposed to be comparable to Benefit POREfessional primer, which I have never tried due to my ever-present Diva on a Dime issues. On that note, I must stop by Sephora for a sample of it so that I can compare. I love Sephora for their generosity….. Oh, I digress… At any rate, for a fraction of the price at $9.99, Maybelline was once again speaking my kinda language.

It’s clear and has a light gel-like consistency but not as oily as gels tend to be. I don’t normally use it daily, because I don’t wear foundation daily. And though it can be used without makeup, I like to save it for the full throttle days. With that, I haven’t noticed any diminishing of my crater pores, but I quite frankly don’t think anything will ever help that. If someone thinks that they can prove me wrong – holla!

I do however like the velvety feel of my skin after I smooth it on (I only use it on my cheeks where my pores are massive), and the way it mattifies (this word will forever kill me). It definitely works well as a primer, giving my skin a nice smooth pre-moisturizer finish. I actually used it in the picture further down (the mascara close-up) and didn’t apply any foundation – just MAC mineralize skinfinish in Give Me Sun.

It’s a handy little addition to your cosmetics collection, if you’ve been looking for a primer so I say GET IT!

Maybelline Color Tattoo by Eyestudio Eyeshadow

GIFI Maybelline color tattoo(9)

About the product: “Ink technology creates 24HR wear shadow for our most intense, long-lasting color saturation, cream formula glides on without creasing and keeps color vibrant, Ophthalmologist-tested.  Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers”.

Okay… Confession: I haven’t actually used this as eye-shadow. I had seen a few Youtubers on Instagram use it as temporary hair colour and found this the best way to spice up my hair since I’m not ready to put any chemical dyes in it. There are only a few colours: purple, blue and gold and I – of course – started by trying the purple. It has such a vibrant metallic colour that adds the right pop of colour…. to your hair.

The consistency is thick and creamy which helps with the vibrancy. I did try it on my hand and it really does seem almost ink-like because it’s so thick. I’m not a fan of cream eyeshadows, because my lids get oily and the shadow usually congeals and sits in the crease after a couple hours, so this was a great alternative for me.

I apply it to my hair after i’ve two-strand twisted it, then would smooth over some oil and then the colour over the twist before undoing it. When I first started, I only put a little and people would kinda notice that I had a colour in my hair.  Of late, I’ve thrown caution to the wind and wile out, mostly to the top of my head.

GIFI Maybelline color tattoo(8)

Can I just say that I LOVE the pop of colour! I’m going to get EVERY shade! I got so many compliments and the best part is that it’s temporary so *poof* and it’s gone.

This gets a resounding GET IT!

Maybelline Pumped up Colossal Mascara

GIFI Maybelline (7) pumped up

Although we have another great feature called “Mascara Logs“, I’m enjoying this “GIFI” (get it or forget it) roll we’re on!

Whenever they come out with a new mascara, you feel compelled to try it. So even though I usually do not gravitate towards Maybelline mascaras, those dang commercials always get me. About the product: “Pumped up volume up to 12X with the first double shot brush that scoops up an extra shot of plumping formula for the most pumped up volumizing lashes ever”. The brush is supposed to be some double up fabulosity that no girl can resist.

Oh? I’ll let my Unruly Curlies be the judge of that, Maybelline. And Ash always says, mascara is completely subjective. As you read in June’s Get it or Forget it, she absolutely loved Mary Kay’s Lash Love, while I was like “meh”. I have curly lashes that basically do whatever they want, when and how they want. So when I find a mascara that rocks my world, I hold on for life.

Here are my lashes after a few coats of Pumped Up:

GIFI Maybelline pumped up(11)

Meh.

The brush doesn’t coat each lash the way I desire, and I find you need quite a few coats before you really start to notice anything.

If you have curly lashes and have used this and like it, please let me know below. But I give this a FORGET IT!

ASH:

Annabelle BB-Cream Multi Action Beauty Balm

If you know me or even have read any of my posts in the past, then you should be as surprised as I was by this one.

I so did NOT jump on the BB CC or DD cream trains when they passed by. I am sure they are fantastic for some gals, but this foundation lover was just not interested. I have always hated sheer products like tinted moisturizer. I find that they usually have poor coverage and apply messily. I would much rather sheer out a medium to full coverage foundation with a thin application as I think the results are better. So basically, I am eating my words because I found a bb cream that I really do dig. Shocker!

I picked up the Annabelle BB cream on a whim when my Mom decided to try it out, because the shade actually looked good. I find that many bb creams are pinky or even greyish, but this one has distinct yellow tones.

Annabelle BB Cream in Medium Dark

Promising.

Anabelle describes their beauty balm as an all-in-one miracle skin solution. This cream blurs imperfections, brightens and fits your complexion perfectly while moisturizing the skin. It minimizes pores, absorbs excess of sebum and controls shine as well as protecting from the sun with its SPF 15. For all skin types. It is hypo-allergenic, non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested. The product has been formulated with no oil, parabens or perfumes.

Annabelle BB Cream

I did not have high hopes, and figured that at best I would be using this product as a primer. Colour me surprised when I swatched it and notices that the coverage was actually decent.

I have been wearing Anabelle bb cream as a light everyday makeup. For night time, special events or a heavier look, I still reach for my favourite foundations. But, for a light work day face I am loving this stuff. I am super shocked to say that this product only comes in two shades. Usually it takes a foundation with an excellent shade range to find my match. I wear medium-dark. I apply a few drops with my Sigma F80 brush and I don’t even set it with powder!

Anabelle bb Cream

This BB cream evens out my skin tone and provides an even, slightly dewy finish that stays on my face all day. Magic, I tell you. I understand why this product won Best Tinted Cream 2014 in Elle Magazine’s Beauty Grand Prix.

The Annabelle Multi Action Beauty Balm retails for $15.95. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like this product on my skin. GET IT!

Breezer Real Coco-Water

I love anything coconut scented or flavoured, but I particularly love coconut water. I think it is so refreshing and love adding it to my smoothies instead of regular water. Imagine my excitement when my friend said she picked up some alcoholic coconut water. SAY WHAT?!

Coco Water Breezer

From the Breezer site: Made with real coconut water, these alcoholic mixed drinks are a deliciously refreshing way to enjoy the authentic flavours of the tropics. We blend coconut water with all natural flavour – for a taste that takes you back to the tropics with every sip.

I made a claim when I posted about this delicious drink on Instagram- it is my favourite alcoholic beverage. I’m sticking to that. It is so refreshing and delicious. Oh, and it goes down way too easily for a boozy beverage. I especially appreciate the fact that, like the label says it is not too sweet. It sort of tastes like a lightly carbonated coconut water to me.

The Breezer Real Coco-Water comes in a pack of four cans for $9.95. It also comes in a yellow can with pineapple flavour.

I should mention that some of my friends did not love this drink, so it may be an acquired taste. But they also don’t care for coconut water. I also have another friend who usually doesn’t like coconut water, but loved this. So, I guess your homework is to try it and report back to me.

Go GET IT! Cheers 🙂

Revlon Nail Enamel in Fearless

Shoutout to Emily Clarke who raved about this colour in one of her videos. Otherwise, it is a shade that probably would never have caught my eye.

Revlon Fearless

Fearless is a really pretty bright orange-red cream colour. Nothing really unique there when you look at it in the bottle. But, there is just something about this colour that looks so fantastic on nails. This colour does to nails what a good red lipstick will do to teeth. It has a way of making my hands look fresh, polished, and like I have zero cuticle when that is not the case.

nails Revlon Fearless

The Revlon Nail Enamel is affordable at $5.99 each and I find them incredibly easy to work with. They are also formulated without formaldehyde and toluene. This is very good to know, especially since Revlon has been crticized for utilizing some questionable chemicals in the past.

Fearless is so easy to whip on. Two coats with some Essie Good to Go topcoat over it , and I am out the door in no time. My pet peeve is nail polishes that require painstaking precision and time to apply neatly and streak-free. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

I find that Fearless will easily last a week, sometimes more on my nails.I recently purchased a handful of new nail polish colours, but I have worn nothing but Fearless all month long! I get bored very easily, so that is really something.

If you’re looking for a bright and beautiful nail colour that is both easy to work with and long wearing, you should GET IT!

  1. Ohhh, you’re not kidding when you say the coconut water Breezer goes down way too easy for a boozy beverage…it is my new favourite! I am also excited to try Ash’s Anabelle BB cream and Chris’ repurposed eye-shadow-as-hair-dye. I love that you said the Revlon nail enamel results in a zero cuticle look – I am really picky about that, because I have the dryest cuticles you have ever seen to begin with, and having them peek out from my nail colour is just bad. Thank you ladies!
