August Get It or Forget It

Ash:

Nude Pro Genius Treatment Oil

I’ll admit it, I am a convert. I love skin oils. Since having excellent results with Boscia Tsubaki oil, I have been a lot more brave about trying oils on my skin, particularly my face. I am certain that the use of oil overnight has made my pores smaller, my skin less oily and my complexion more even.

I received a mini size of the Nude ro genius treatment oil and used it for the entire month of August. The oil is Nude skincare’s signature treatment of 10 carefully selected plants oils rich in omega three, six, seven and nine. The precise balance of vital nutrients instantly absorb for deep hydration to nourish and immediately smooth skin. Camelina reduces redness and irritation. Sea buckthorn and macadamia oil renew and repair, while apricot kernel oil deeply moisturizes and hydrates skin.

I use the Nude Pro Genius treatment oil at night time. After cleansing and toning my face, I press a few drops of oil into the skin on my face. The product is quick to absorb and has a yellow color in the dropper that is not visible on your face. I particularly like that the oil has no scent and not feel heavy on the skin but still left it feeling moisturized. I feel that it helps to minimize my pores. Also, I felt that the oil gave me a smoother and more even complexion when I woke up in the morning.

I am sure that with continued long term use, this product could really be fantastic on my skin. However, I left out the kicker.

The Nude Pro Genius treatment oil is $97 for one ounce.  Yup, you read that correctly.

This treatment oil is undoubtedly a great product and I had very good results with it.  But, if you remember…I had similar results with the Boscia Tsubaki beauty oil (which is about half the price).

And so we have our first toss up for the Nude Pro Genius treatment oil. At a hundred dollars a pop, if you feel like being indulgence and want to treat yourself then GET IT. But, because I can achieve similar results for my skin with lower priced oil, I  am going to FORGET IT.

Stila Stay All Day 10 in 1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm

You know the deal- I used to hate BB creams. I used to shout from the rooftops that they did not have enough coverage for me and that I would remain ever true to my favourite foundations. Then I tried the Annabelle BB and shockingly enough, did not hate it. In fact, I really liked it. And thus my mind was open to a world of new beauty balm possibilities. Granted, I still think most of them do nada on my face, but that’s another story.

I spent the last week in Las Vegas. I love Vegas and have been there a few times, you can read all about it in my TNL Travels, Vegas edition. Right now Vegas is hawt. Very hot. It was around 40 degrees Celsius to be precise. We made excellent use of our hotel pool, leaving me with a golden tan. So, what’s a girl to do when she is 3 shades darker than her makeup and needs something bulletproof to withstand the heat?

Enter Stila Stay All Day 10 in 1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm. It is described as the first step to a brilliant and healthy-looking radiance. It bronzes and primes the skin to a sun-kissed glow. Ideal for all skin types and skin tones, this revolutionary, oil-free formula uses the smallest particle of coated pigments for seamless, smooth coverage. The formula is infused with innovative micro-spheres, which have been shown to hide skin imperfections and reduce the appearance of wrinkle depth by up to 84 percent. It also contains natural, skin-protecting emollients, which have been shown to increase antioxidant activity by up to 89.7 percent. Enriched with a proprietary blend, this beauty balm helps reduce skin inflammation, improve texture, support natural collagen production, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles by up to 67 percent. The Stila Stay All Day 10 in 1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm retails for about $36.00.

Stila Bronzing BB Cream

I tried this product once before and absolutely hated it. I don’t know what it was but it worked exceptionally for me this time around. I truly believe that the use of oils have improved my skin texture and tone so much that I am now able to use the lighter, more sheer base products that wouldn’t cut it before. Excellent.

To use the Stila Bronzing BB, I put a small about on the back of my hand and apply on top of Embryolisse moisturizer with my Sigma F80 brush.

Stila Bronzing BB Cream

It perfectly evened out my skin tone, set to a perfect natural looking (not matte, but not Dewey either) finish, and lasted beautifully through long hot vacation days. It also contains a 30 SPF that did not cause any flashback in my pictures.

I am glad I gave the Stila Stay All Day 10 in 1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm a second try. I don’t know if I believe all of the BB cream transforming your skin over time hype, but I am impressed enough with this one’s look and wear to repurchase for Summer months. GET IT!

Clean & Clear Night Relaxing Deep Cleaning Facial Cleanser

I am picky with my cleansers. I hate the feeling of my face being stripped of all oils, but I also hate the feeling that residue is left on my face. A happy medium makes for a great cleanser.

In case you’re wondering, my favourite cleanser is the Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Gel. However, like any true product addict, I am always on the hunt for new winners. I find that Clean & Clear makes some really fantastic products ( Persa Gel is THE BEST spot treatment I have ever tried) . I have found their products to be on par with some high end brands, and you just cannot beat their price point!

When I saw the Clean & Clear Night Relaxing Deep Cleaning Facial Cleanser, it just sounded lovely. I have tried the Morning Burst face wash and although it doesn’t quite get me up-and -at-em like a Tim Horton’s dark roast will, it is very invigorating and refreshing for morning. What a great idea to create a sister product to help relax and unwind for night time face washing.

The Clean & Clear Night Relaxing Deep Cleaning Facial Cleanser is an oil free, purifying cleanser that claims to clean deep to effectively wash away daily build-up-like dirt, oil and impurities deep in pores. This foaming cleanser even washes away dirt and oil you can’t see while calming aromas help wind you down-leaving you feeling clean and relaxed. It claims not to clog pores or over dry.

Clean & Clear Night Relaxing Cleansing Face Wash

The scent of this face wash is clean and refreshing.I am not sure how to describe it besides as an aquatic, soothing scent. It definitely makes cleansing a nice experience. The cleanser itself is a clear gel consistency that lathers to a foam. It does not contain any exfoliating beads or grit.

The Night Relaxing Deep Cleansing Cleanser did an okay job of removing my makeup, although I notice that there is sometimes a bit of product left on my skin when I applied toner with a cotton pad after cleansing. Most importantly to me, although my skin felt fine after washing my face with this product , it lacked the fresh and breathable feeling that my skin has after rinsing with some of my favourite cleansers.

With a resounding “Meh.” I found this cleanser to be mediocre. It got the job done, but is definitely nothing to write home about. Even with the attractive $6.00 price tag, I’d say to FORGET IT.

Precision Blending Wedges

August GetitOrForgetit (1)

They always get you with the eye-catching packaging, don’t they? You couldn’t possibly look at this and tell me that you’d walk right past it. Now, we’ve made it very clear that your TNL gals are lovers of the beautyblender, so that added to my intrigue. It is basically the same premise – for easy make-up application. But – let’s be real – it’s shaped like a flower and was only $6. It was coming home with me.

Each “petal” pulls apart into a handy little wedge and, similar to the bb, it expands when wet. I use it to apply foundation around my eyebrows since thanks to the edge, I can get more precise application.

August GetitORForgetit

The sponge doesn’t have the same feel as the bb; it’s a different material and almost doesn’t absorb the water as readily. I have to let the water run and then squeeze it into the sponge (it slides right off). I’ve also used it to apply/blend in concealer but I don’t like the results it attributes. It almost blends the product too much until it almost wipes it away, so I’ll only use it for foundation.

All in all, it isn’t a waste to have this little gal in your make-up collection (after all, it’s a flower). If you haven’t or aren’t willing to spend the money on the beautyblender (although its worth it) this is a nice little an more budget-friendly alternative to have. It would even work best for the low maintenance make-up days, or if someone really doesn’t wear all that much and doesn’t want to spend too much on products.

I say GET IT!

NeoStrata Oil Free Gel cleanser

August GetitOrForgetit (2)

When it comes to skincare, I tend to go with things that people I trust have recommended. So with that I’ve never used NeoStrata products even though I have heard that it’s good from reading reviews and blogs. Plus – it isn’t exactly cheap. Recently, though, I was fortunate enough to receive a full-sized sample from the cashier at Shoppers…. when I was checking out my refill of my trusty La Roche-Posay Effaclar.

From their site:

Ideal for:

  • Oily
  • Dilated pores, blackheads
  • All ages

Results:

  • Cleanses and refreshes in one simple step
  • Removes build-up of dead cells, oil and impurities on the surface of the skin
  • Reveals clearer, younger-looking skin in just 10 days

Using just the use dime-size (okay, nickel) amount the gel cleanser works into a nice lather after massaging a bit on my face. Whether I use it alone or with my Pro-X, it leaves my face squeaky clean without feeling stripped of any moisture. What I really like about it is how easily and readily it washes off my make-up, including mascara. This isn’t to say that my Effaclar doesn’t, but this NeoStrata does an AMAZING job! So this has become my night-time go-to cleanser.

By the next morning my skin still feels so clean and refreshed. My complexion remains clear and my pores are not as visible. Once I moisturize and prime my face for make-up, application is smooth and flawless. Essentially, I agree with everything they said about this product.

This is definitely another GET IT!

Fruttare Frozen Fruit Bars

August GetitOrForgetit (3)

I love mango. A lot. Like… A LOT. In any way, shape or form. And coming from the Caribbean, I’ve seen it in many ways, shapes and forms. I also love ice cream, frozen yogurt and smoothies, but who doesn’t? So when I stumbled upon this product that combined two favourite things on sale in the Shopper’s grocery section, I was compelled to try it out.

It is – by far – one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Fruttare is a Canadian-owned company promoting healthy living through these delicious fruit bars. They won the Canadian Living “2014 Best New Product Award” and I can see why. One bar is the right amount to hit the spot as a dessert or afternoon snack. Hot summer day? Reach for one of these bad boys. The thing is…  it’s really, really hard to have just one. The taste is true to the fruit – meaning it is real mango – and I gobble it up in a matter of seconds. I’m not even going to be graceful about that last part. I’d like to savour each bit and stuff but it. is. so. darn. good. There are only 6 in a box, and Fruttare should really revisit that. I’d say 8 would be a great number. Heck – give me a lifetime supply. IV drip – yeah would be ideal. It costs about $7.99 or $8.99 for a box and I had picked it up on sale that first time. Score.

Needless to say, what I’m leading up to is a resounding GET IT! And you’re welcome for this one.
