Mascara Log – L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly

Mascara! Our favourite! Let’s get right down to business, shall we?

Today folks, we discuss L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly mascara.

I have already made it known that some of my favourite mascaras are by L’Oreal, so I had high hopes when I saw that they had another new one. And upon closer inspection of the brush, I was already digging the design. I convinced myself that it is the exact kind that usually works best for my Unruly curlies to really get in there and work on each lash (more comb-like than bristle-like).

L’Oreal described it as the “Revolutionary Wing Tip Brush with an Asymmetrical shape catches every lash from corner to corner“.

I’ll be the judge of that, L’Oreal. Take it easy.

What it looks like

I had to agree with their description; the brush is tres cool with an interesting shape that is clearly designed to get to each lash as you apply. I feel like they brought in a group of people with curly lashes to give their feedback before releasing the final product.

 Overall Impression

I have fallen truly, madly, deeply in love with this mascara from the very first use – and that never happens. I usually get better results when the formula has been exposed to air after a few uses. This would mean that I also like the thicker, creamier formula of this mascara, because its thickness helps to control my lashes better. Because of the design of the brush, it gets to each individually curled lash and lengthens it while coating it to give it that winged shape. My lashes are always full, long and even plus it lasts all day without flaking and feeling the need to reapply. When I go overboard and lay it on really thick, it can even look like fake lashes. People have even commented on my lashes or asked if I’m wearing extensions. Okay… It’s one thing to like a mascara, but for others to comment on your lashes and behind glasses at that? That’s a whole new ball game. So once again L’Oreal has me sold on their mascaras.

But WAIT I’m not done!

Enter L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Intenza…. and I just can’t with L’Oreal and life.

Whatever do you mean by this, L’Oreal?

breakthrough double-winged tip butterfly brush that fans out and loads lashes with up to 9x the volume, for a bolder, more intense (vs. original Voluminous Butterfly mascara) ultra-fanned look.

Stop the madness. Right this instant.

I don’t really notice any significant difference between the 2, but a girl likes having options. Oh, who am I fooling? I like using them together (disregard the fallout, I was too excited to take pics).

So, I get the same great results with either – lengthened and evenly dispersed curly lashes that last all day without flaking. For some reason, if I had to choose I’d go with the original, but that’s mainly because I am always partial to the original of anything.

Ash and I recently reviewed Younique Moonstruck 3d Fiber mascara, and without a doubt I’d pick this mascara over that one – not to mention this is much easier on the pockets. Needless to say, I adore this mascara so this one would be hard to beat for me. Also Um…. Dear L’Oreal why am I not a spokesperson yet? HUH?! Maybe I should check my junk email in case…

  1. Your lashes look amazing – I must give this mascara a try! My ears perked up when the commercial for this mascara came on the tv the other day – so can you imagine my joy at seeing that my favourite blog in all the world just reviewed it too?! Thank you for the descriptive review and pics. I am also a fan of a slightly thicker formulation, and I’m all about saving money and going the drugstore route. Merci Chris 🙂
