Since returning from South Africa, I’ve had a few people ask me about the trip because they’re thinking of going. SO thrilling. Don’t forget to check out my other reviews in our ever-growing Travel section.
So now, let’s talk a little more about the food, shall we???
Guys let me just tell you something: I didn’t have a single bad meal while in South Africa! And thanks to the favourable exchange rate, everything was so affordable. Looking at these pictures is making me miss this trip even more than I already did.
Our hostel in Cape Town was close to a few restaurants, so while there we just had to hop out the doors and skip along a few steps to find something to eat… as long as it was before 10pm. We were forced to have McDonald’s on our very first night because we wanted to nap and refresh after 2 days of traveling… Only to get up too late. We’ll never forget the hostel staff’s reaction when we asked what they suggested we eat: “It’s after 10 – where are you going?!?!” Ha!
Anyway, let’s get cracking! (Hover your cursor over the picture to get a full description).
I am mostly mentioning this place because of the life-altering *chai latte* that I consumed there. Have you ever had something SO good that you can still remember how it made you feel the first time you tried it? I actually wished that I could kidnap the guy who made it! No, seriously… We even returned so that I could have another one, and I envisioned fitting him into my suitcase.
International Pizza – the BEST pizza I have ever had. Ever. Try it. You’re welcome.
Can we just talk about their 2 for 1 burgers on Wednesdays on top of delicious and affordable meals? Um, excuse me? Yeah, we ate here a few times indeed. I’d like to point out that the burgers were HUGE! You know, added to being delicious. Oh, did I say that already?
Can I just share the decor with you?
Honorable mention to the nicest bathrooms I’ve ever seen!
Okay , now onto the meals.
The setting here was so authentic and beautiful. There was so much to take in, all while being entertained by one of the most animated bartender-turned-waiters-because-the-waiter-isn’t-here-yet ever.
I felt like I was having lunch in a tree-house – something I always wished I could have done.
Thyme in Nicol
Sometimes you ask for onion rings and think they’ll replace the fries on the side, and other times…
We made it to the famous Moyo restaurant! African cuisine, here we come! And we were serenaded as we waited then dined. I wish I had gotten more videos!
My first experience eating tagine was an amazing one.
Okay, okay – I’m done now. But really… Who else is hungry?!
